I can only assume this was a real recipe, and not something an ad agency guy concocted on his last day on the job when he finally got a bellyfull of A&P's ordering him around.
Keep in mind that this ad appeared in 1954, in the midst of the postwar economic boom, not in the heart of the Depression.

I hate to say it, but this would have to come from the post-war period, since before about 1945 nobody outside the Italian community would have had the least clue what a pizza was.
